The CSRA Working Dog Club had a humble beginning, training in an open field in Evans , GA , Jerry Lyda and Matt Hammond would take turns working each others dogs. Lyda and Hammond would soon be joined by Lyda's daughter Jackie Shultz and his son Jay Lyda. Slowly the word spread and in a matter months what started out as two trainers grew into an active club.
Now the CSRA WDC is comprised of 15 members from all walks of life and still growing. Lawyers, Nurses, Students, Police Officers and Soldiers help make up the club's demographics. Seeing the interest in the world of working dogs, Lyda and Hammond made the move to form a club and have never looked back.
Having such a diverse group of members proved to be a daunting task. Not wanting to be sport specific, the CSRA WDC helps members train for Schutzhund, French Ring, APPDA, and Police Trials. Decoying became an even more difficult task. Having to learn and be proficient in different sports Hammond had to recruit Decoys and train them. Jay Lyda stepped up to the task and in less then a year tested and was certified as a decoy for ASR. David Kuneman soon followed, bringing Schutzhund helper and ring sport experience, David also tested and certified with ASR as a decoy. Now having three certified decoys that had the ability to work dogs in suits and sleeve the CSRA WDC was able to assist its members to train in the sport of their choice.
Today, the CSRA WDC concentrates on APPDA. A few members are still working toward titles in other venues, but still training for APPDA as well.
The CSRA WDC Meets every Monday and Thursday in either south Augusta , GA or Harlem , GA. We welcome all visitors to stop by and watch training. Call Jerry Lyda at (706) 231-3856 to find out more.
